What Is Hypertension?
Hypertension is the name for high blood pressure. Hypertension can lead to severe complications and also will increase the risk of stroke, heart disease, and death. Blood pressure is the force that is exerted by blood against the walls of the blood vessels. The cause of hypertension is usually not known.
It’s best to regulate blood pressure through diet before it reaches the stages of hypertension, but there are different treatment options. Regular physical exercise can help. Current guidelines recommend that those with hypertension have at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic intensity exercise per week. Examples include jogging, cycling, or walking. Reducing stress can also play a role. Smoking can raise blood pressure and giving up smoking will reduce the risk of hypertension, along with other health issues. Medications can be used to treat hypertension and patients are usually started on a low dose and one at a time. Eventually, a combination of two antihypertensive drugs is required.
